As we celebrate Women's Month, we embark on a journey to explore and honour the dynamic and diverse roles that women are playing in shaping the landscape of real estate.
Jenna van Riel, double diamond agent and director of Tyson Properties Winelands, Angela Morite – REMAX Exclusive, Klerksdorp (19 – the youngest, top-earning agent in REMAX) and Amanda Botha, team leader at Meridian Realty, share their journey into the real estate sector, what inspired them to pursue a career in the field, and what it takes to achieve success.
How did you get started in the property industry, and what inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
I got started in the property industry after realising my passion for helping people find their dream homes. My journey began with a passion for architecture and renovations, which provided me with a solid understanding of market trends and client needs. What truly inspired me was witnessing the transformative power of real estate; it’s not just about buildings but about creating spaces where lives and memories are built. Joining Tyson Properties in 2021 and owning my own franchise with my husband in the Cape Winelands from 2023, has allowed me to channel this passion into a meaningful career, where I can make a difference in people's lives through real estate.
What advice would you give to other women aspiring to build a successful career in the property sector?
My advice to women aspiring to succeed in the property sector is to be confident in your abilities and seek out mentorship. The industry can be challenging, but building a strong network of supportive colleagues and mentors can help navigate hurdles. Additionally, continuous learning is essential—attend workshops, pursue certifications, and stay updated on market trends. Most importantly, don’t hesitate to advocate for yourself and showcase your achievements; your voice and perspective are invaluable in this field.
